Dare To Be Great

When you hear the word great or greatness what or who do you think of?

Inventors?

Doctors?

Scientists?

Buildings or Monuments?

Do you want to know what should be the first thing that comes to mind? YOU!

Yeah, that’s right.

I said it.

YOU….

Every one of us is born with an unlimited, yet to be discovered, treasure trove of unique capabilities, faculties and potential. The problem is that most of us are not aware of them because we’re so wrapped up in the circumstances of our lives. Trust me when I say that I understand about the life circumstances. Being a single mother with five children to take care of was no easy task. I know what it’s like to be so bogged down in doubt and fear until you can barely see your way to the next day. Been there, done that and brought back a t-shirt to warn everyone else. But at some point I had to take control of my life and make a change.

My change came when I made the decision to better  myself so that my children would have a better life. One of the first things I had to do was to stop seeing myself based upon the limited vision of others. I started saying to myself, “I am who God say’s I am”. I began to see myself as strong, smart, capable, victorious and great. I stopped listening to the nay sayers and the dream killers. I got free of people.

Do you remember the commercial that came on television asking, “Who’s in your fave five?’ Well I asked myself that. Needless to say I had to redo my fave five. I learned that if you want to know what you really believe about yourself, just take a look at who you surround yourself with. It was like looking in a twisted funhouse mirror and I did not like what I saw. So some changes had to be made.  I began to surround myself with people of substance, people who encouraged and pushed me to be better than I ever thought I could be. People who told me I was great and that greatness abounded on the inside of me. And people who taught me how to harness and release that greatness to help someone else see and reach their own greatness.

So here’s my question for you…..

How do you see yourself?

Who do you think you are?

And last but not least…..Who’s in your fave five?

Take a moment, think about it and then began to  make the necessary changes. Emmitt Smith said something so profound in his Hall of Fame induction speech. He said, “Find your inner champion…..Never let others define you. You define yourself.” These are words to live by. Will it be easy?…Not by a long shot. But in the end it will be the most wonderful thing that you could ever do for yourself.

Go on…..Do it…..DARE TO BE GREAT.
